Ausgerechnet der Inbegriff des US-Muscle-Cars, der Ford Mustang, soll noch 2007 als «Warrior in Pink» die sinkenden Verkäufe ankurbeln. Das sorgt für Ärger bei den Mustang-Fans.

Wenn es mit dem Absatz der Autos nicht mehr wunschgemäss läuft, kommen die Hersteller auf die verrücktesten Ideen. So will Ford den 2005 neu aufgelegten und in den USA bis Ende 2006 durchaus erfolgreichen Mustang Ende 2007 ganz in Pink auf die Strasse bringen. Damit wollen die Marketingstrategen bei Ford USA den Inbegriff des Muscle-Cars frauenfreundlicher machen und so den Abwärtstrend in den Verkaufsstatistiken stoppen: Denn in den ersten beiden Monaten 2007 ging der Verkauf des Ford Mustang in den USA um 19 Prozent zurück.
Aufregung im Internet
Die Gerüchte um den pinkfarbenen Ford Mustang sorgen im Internet für heftige Diskussionen. So ärgert sich der User «J.F.K.» über die Pläne bei Ford USA und meint warnend: «O Gott, jetzt wird der Mustang schwul. Wie kann man Ford von dieser Idee abbringen? Wenn das Auto so auf die Strasse kommt, verkaufe ich meinen Ford Mustang sofort und bestelle mir einen Japaner.» Für «Felix» ist der geplante pinkfarbene Mustang ebenfalls ein Skandal: «Das ist, als ob man einen Wrestling-Champion mit einem pinkigen Blumendress in den Ring schickt. In andern Worten: Das fühlt sich ziemlich unkomfortabel an.» Für «Mr. Oak» setzen die Amerikaner den Hebel am falschen Ort an. «Wenn man mit dem Mustang gegen einen BMW M3 antreten will, dann muss man einiges mehr bieten als ein pinkiges Auto.» «Bob R.» beurteilt die ganze Diskussion um den pinkfarbenen Mustang viel gelassener: «Gute Idee. Klar, die haben schon jetzt jede Menge Special Editions, aber wenn es hilft, die Verkäufe anzukurbeln und die Arbeitsplätze in den USA zu sichern, dann ist es der richtige Weg.» Pinkiger Mustang in den 60ern Die Aufregung in den Mustang-Foren erstaunt insofern, als bereits in den 60erJahren ein Mustang ganz in Pink bei Ford vom Band gelaufen ist. Doch dieser hatte nicht die Absicht, die Frauen als Käufer zu erreichen, sondern die Männer. Das klappte bestens – und die «Playboy Pink»-Mustangs machten das starke Geschlecht in den 60ern schwach.
Apropos schwach: Laut den Gerüchten soll der neue Mustang in Pink nur in der schwachen ST-Version mit dem Sechszylindermotor anrollen. Das sorgt bei den Mustang-Machos in den USA für noch mehr Heiterkeit: «Ist es nicht typisch und zum Lachen, dass der ultimative ChickCar nur mit einem kleinen und schwachen V6 ausgeliefert werden soll?», fragt sich «Hagetaka».
Egal. Bei Ford USA herrscht derzeit Stillschweigen zum Thema Mustang in Pink, und in die Schweiz wird das aktuelle Modell nicht offiziell importiert. «Leider konnte noch niemand Auskunft geben», beantwortete der Schweizer Ford-Sprecher Erwin Thomann die Anfrage des «Tages-Anzeigers».
«Warrior in Pink»
Für die Realisierung der umstrittenen Special Edition spricht die Tatsache, dass Ford USA seit Jahren «Warrior in Pink», eine Stiftung gegen Brustkrebs, mit grossen Beträgen unterstützt. Gemäss dem Wissen von User «Damon Lavrinc» soll der pinkfarbene Muscle-Car darum nicht nur die Frauen als mögliche Kundinnen ansprechen, sondern auch von Frauen, genauer von Mitgliedern der Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, innen und aussen designt werden.
Nebst einem Mustang in Pink soll auch ein schwarzer Mustang mit pinkigen Streifen und Interieur angeboten werden. Egal in welcher Ausführung, «Bryan» findet die Idee toll. «Hört mal auf, immer Ford zu bashen. Immerhin sammelt Ford jährlich Millionen Dollar und spendet sie für einen guten Zweck.» Das wird auch beim «Warrior in Pink» so sein: Der Aufpreis soll in den Kampf gegen Brustkrebs investiert werden.
