ROUSHcharger Upgrade Pushes GT500 To 700 HP

Bild

ROUSH performance has pushed the Shelby GT500 to the limit with the release of a new ROUSHcharger system that will boost overall power to 700 horsepower with their top kit. The ROUSHcharger system will come in three different kits with the first being just minor upgrades like a Cold Air Kit and new calibration which will give you an additional 45 horsepower. The next kit includes the 2.3L blower, 78mm non-removable pulley and new calibration which will add 120 ponies and 88 lb.-ft. torque. This kit will include a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty and not void the factory warranty. The top package will include the 2.3L blower along with mods the owner must purchase separately like a 72mm or 76mm pulley and new calibration. These mods will push your GT500 to 700 horsepower as per the ROUSH engineers. Unfortunely this kit will void your factory warranty so think twice before choosing your kit.

The full press release is below and will give a few more details but not much. These parts should be out in December sometime. More info check out RoushPerformance.com.

Press Release:
Owners of the new Ford GT500 are a proud group – proud of the car and proud of the 500 horsepower that comes with the stock engine. But the engineers at ROUSH Performance, the leader in Ford powertrain development and all things high-performance, are ready to unveil a new ROUSHchargerTM that can boost the performance over the edge with up to 700 horsepower.

The GT500 ROUSHchargerTM will be offered in three different kits. The simplest upgrade is the addition of a Cold Air Kit with new calibration which nets 45 horsepower.

The next step is including the 2.3L blower in a package which adds 120 horsepower and 88 lb.-ft. torque while keeping a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty. This warranty will not void any offered by the factory. This kit includes the ROUSHchargerTM, a 78mm non-removable pulley and new calibration.

For those living on the wild side, a non-warranty version will also be offered for off-road use, and this version is anticipated to push the GT500 engine to a mind-boggling 700 horsepower, 200 more than the stock engine. Customers will have to purchase a 72mm or 76mm pulley separately, and this version does not include an upgraded calibration. Other modifications may be necessary in order to maximize the horsepower gains.

Our engineers have really pushed the envelope with this ROUSHchargerTM and I think it is a credit to them to get as much as 200 horsepower more out of the GT500 engine,” said Jack Roush. “We are expecting that there will be a certain number of Shelby owners who intend to keep their car in stock condition, but there are also going to be those who want to push that envelope and have bragging rights over their friends. From mild to wild, we can help them get where they want to go with horsepower. It all depends on if they want the peace-of-mind of having a warranty, or go right to the edge and let it all hang out.”

The GT500 ROUSHchargerTM is a new derivative design from the current roots-style applications currently on the market and features a considerable improvement in both airflow and efficiency. The bottom line is the more airflow, the more power. Noteworthy is that this is the first application that will be incorporating this new technology, both on the OE and aftermarket side.

The cold air intake kit considerably reduces pressure drop across the stock air box and filter element. It comes with a high-flow, large 6-inch conical filter and the rotomolded airbox seals to the hood to reduce leakage. Again, the bottom line is less loss equals more airflow which results in more power.

K&N Filter System Adds 53.7 HP To Shelby GT500

This new air intake system from K&N adds a mind boggling 53.71 horsepower to the allready potent Shelby GT500. The K&N 63-series AirCharger intake system was developed specifically for the GT500’s 5.4 liter V8 engine. K&N claims the horsepower gains are no BS and they have the dyno numbers to prove it. Installation for this air intake system can be done in under 90 minutes and can usually be done by most fifth graders, if you can’t install this then you have bigger problems.

“One of the reasons for such a large power gain is the large K&N Air Filter (RF-1048),” said K&N Performance Kit Manager Bert Heck. “The factory air box was restricted in size and restrictive in air flow especially at higher RPMs. We made a larger intake tube that fit nicely under the front stabilizer bar.”

“The tube is oval because the throttle body was oval. This also allowed the tube cross section to be larger,” said Heck. “The large horsepower gain of this air intake is also due to the radius adaptor design as it smoothly takes the 6 inch flange of the air filter and mates it with the intake tube.”

This K&N air intake system comes with their famous Million Mile Warranty.

Add 144 Hp To Shelby GT500 With Steeda Products

Forget about buying the Shelby GT500 KR with 540 horsepower for upwards of $50K, why not just buy a Shelby GT500 and add two bolt-ons plus a tune from Steeda for an extra 144 hp at around $1500. Steeda has come out with a new Cold Air Kit specifically designed for the Shelby GT500 that produces the greatest power gains of any kit on the market combined with their Custom SCT Tune. The horsepower generated from the kit and tune equal 97 additional horsepower to the rear wheels. If you add Steeda’s Supercharger pulley to those two mods horsepower jumps to 144 additional rear wheel horsepower and they have the dyno results to prove it.

The cold air kit is supplied with a stainless steel air box with built-in billet super velocity stack that helps to increase air flow by smoothing out incoming air. Like most aftermarket intake kits Steeda’s Kit mounts in the factory location with the supplied rubber trim to keep the hot air out. This cold air kit offers the largest mass air meter on the market at over 114 mm. Tests have shown inlet temps a mere 5 degrees above ambient temperature. The Steeda Lifetime Filter can easily be cleaned and re-oiled, making maintenance a snap. All stainless steel hardware required for installation is included in the kit.

Steeda’s cold air kit for the 2007 Shelby GT500 with the inlet elbow costs $390. If you prefer not buy the inlet elbow the cold air kit will be $300. Note when buying the cold air kit it requires a computer re-flash on the GT500 which is sold separately. The supercharger pulley is $180.
